Located along the north central coast of Vietnam, Vinh city is a municipality of Nghe An Province, Vietnam, is a place well-known throughout the country, as the birth place of Mr Ho Chi Minh. With the increased importance of tourism to the economy of Vietnam, there is a need to develop a sufficiently sized Passenger Terminal Building, at the existing civil and military airport.
The site of the new Passenger Terminal at the airport is next to the existing Passenger Terminal. Inspired by the “Lotus Village”, home village of Mr Ho Chi Minh, The interpretation of the lotus is then as a structure that is studied, as tapering stem-like columns that rise from the ground-plane and flower as four-way angular-petal skylight molds. These feature structures and apertures, pattern the double-height spaces with a play of light-openings and faceted-surfaces above the Meeters & Greeters Plaza and the Arrival Baggage-Claim Hall.
Internally, the dramatic folded ceiling planes of the roof’s underside surface, are a strikingly dynamic expression with a directionality to it. This points passengers through from the Departure Check-in to the Departure Gate Lounge, or from the double-height space above the Arrival Baggage-Claim Hall out to the voluminous Meeters & Greeters Plaza.
The new Passenger Terminal Building will be for processing Domestic passengers only, on 2 levels with centralized security screening check. The Passenger Terminal will cater for a capacity of 2,000,000 passengers per annum and for peak hour passenger traffic of 1000.
