Located in Phú Yên Province, Tuy Hoà City, traditionally known as the gateway to the East Sea, is situated along the southern Central Coast of Vietnam. With the increased importance of tourism to the economy of Vietnam, there is a need to develop a sufficiently sized Passenger Terminal Building, at the existing civil and military airport.
The site of the new Passenger Terminal at the airport is set close to the sea, which presents a spectacular tropical beach-resort feel upon touchdown. Inspired by the conical seashell of the East Sea, the main roof, comprising a rhythm of vaults, takes the form of the structure rising in a single sweeping curve over and beyond the concourse roof, creating a column-free spacious interior, washed with daylight. Another set of structural columns incline out towards the kerbside to create slightly arched roof that extends out to welcome passengers to this terminal building.
Internally, a curved feature-walls sweeps across the middle of the main hall, thereby separating the security-screening area from the public greeters and well-wishers hall and therefore also visually connects the arrival and departure halls at the two ends. The terminal design features tropical architecture elements including screens and landscaped decks with outdoor dining areas as well as naturally ventilated Remote Departure Gates.
The new Passenger Terminal Building will be for processing Domestic passengers only, on 1 and 1/2 levels with centralized security screening check. The Passenger Terminal will cater for a capacity of 555,000 passengers per annum and for peak hour passenger traffic of 300.
