The proposed new Passenger Terminal Building will be located next to the existing Terminal Building at Da Nang International Airport. In preparation for the 25th APEC Summit in 2017, the Terminal Building is one of the new infrastructure projects implemented in the city. The new Terminal Building will serve International passengers, will serve International passengers, while the existing International Passenger Terminal Building will be converted to serve Domestic passengers.
The Terminal Building has a modular design comprising of a main terminal building and a linear concourse to serve the aircraft boarding gates. The Terminal Building is set to provide world-class facilities with the initial capacity of 2million passengers per annum up to the Year 2020. The forecast growth to the next 10 years will be 4million passengers per annum.
Inspired from the imagery of “Flying Seagulls”, the main building roof is a series of repetitive bays of inverted-pyramid skylights, with deep overhang at its edges, and supported off a series of splayed props. Planned as a 2-level processing facility, the spatial transparency resonates with the flow of departing passengers on the upper level and arriving passengers below. It will be light-filled and airy, with materials well-suited to the climate and evoking a tropical resort-like feel.
