The new Can Tho Passenger Terminal Building’s roof form was inspired by the Vietnamese flat boats seen in the Mekong Delta. A spacious and airy feel, is realized from large span, high tech, planes that over-sail the main space to come to rest on splayed metallic-finished columns that rise majestically from the ground. Steel construction is used for the terminal, making the structural expression of prop and projection possible. Roof bays are articulated to allow the play of shadow and light, from skylights formed in-between each. These streams of natural light, lead passengers through the Departures Hall and Check-in Halls.
A major consideration in the development of this airport is in the architecture of the terminal building and the progressive image that it should project. In this regard the architectural expression is one which blends the light weight and airy steel and glass aesthetics with the warmth and charm of the ethnic finishes and infused by the calm landscaped gardens, a terminal building befitting the aspirations of this vast agricultural area which is striving for growth and development for the 21st century.
The terminal will have 2 contact stands, 1 for international and the other for domestic operations. Sufficient space on the apron has been reserved for future aircraft stands. For this phase only Code C will be served but this can be upgraded to Code E. The terminal will be able to serve up to 2 million passengers per annum and with the possibility of increasing to 3 million.
